The Village of Lansing has several Departments that offer a 
variety of services to Lansing Seniors.

These services are listed below

VILLAGE CLERKS OFFICE
1. Upon reaching the age of 65 years, Lansing seniors are eligible for a discounted garbage/refuse rate which is included in your water bill.
This discount rate is $27.00 per billing period rather than the regular rate 
of $40.50
Please come to the Clerk's office and fill out the required form, bringing with you a recent tax bill along with your drivers license or state identification card.
2. We offer a Senior Vehicle Sticker (one per household) to Seniors reaching the age of 65 years by July 1st. The cost of the Senior sticker for a car is $1.50 and a truck sticker would be $9.00
3. The Senior Bus is available on Monday and Thursday. To reserve a ride, CALL the Clerk's office at 708-895-7199 between 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. There is a charge of $2.00 for the ride.

THURSDAY Those who go to eat are taken back to River Oaks or the Landings when done eating. Pick-Up time for any going from River Oaks to Ultra (about 11:45 a.m.). Then return to River Oaks to make pick-up at 12:45 p.m., proceed to Ultra for last pick-up at 1:00 p.m.

The Mayor hosts a Senior meeting on the last Thursday of each month (except December). The meetings are held at 10:00 a.m. at the Clerk's Office, 18200 Chicago Ave. The Mayor welcomes the Seniors, introduces the Guest Speaker(s), then has a question/answer session before adjourning.

5. On the last Thursday of September, Mayor Dan hosts a Senior Picnic. LOCATION TO BE DECIDED. 
ALL Lansing Seniors are invited to attend.
LANSING YOUTH CENTER
1. Free income tax assistance and electronic filing is available at the Youth Center to Senior Citizens and low-income individual through a partnership between the Internal Revenue Service and AARP.
Participants need to bring a copy of last years income statements, property tax receipts and any other receipts for possible deductions.
The free sessions are on Tuesdays & Wednesdays from February 1st thru April 15th at the Lansing Youth Center, 18123 Burnham, Ave. 708-418-8050, noon to 4:00 p.m.
Doors open at 11:50 a.m.
LANSING POLICE DEPARTMENT
1. Emergency Bracelet Program
There are 344 participants in this program, and most of them are senior citizens. 
The program was initiated in 2001, and has been extremely successful.
2. Citizens Police Academy
The Lansing Police Department offers a ten-week police officer taught program to Lansing residents.  
The Lansing Citizens Police Academy met on 10 Wednesday evenings from March 1, 2006 thru May 3, 2007 at 7:00pm at the Lansing Police Department HQ 2710 -170th St. Lansing, IL. Schedule for 2008 will be provided soon.

These classes offer a unique perspective into the agency and subjects include: police ethics, criminal investigations, criminal law, use of force, gang awareness, drug use, canine demonstrations and a hands on shooting range class. 
3. Library Presentations
Office Barnes conducts talks at the library for Senior Citizen's and the following topics are covered:
Crimes Against the Elderly; Gypsy and Traveler's Scams; Identity Theft; Operation Lifesaver; Personal Safety; Telephone, Credit card and Computer Scams.
4. National Night Out
The Lansing Police Department has participated in the national Night Out Against crime for over ten years. 
This event will be held in August of each year from 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. The event will be held at the 
Knights of Columbus Hall located at 178th & Lorenz Lansing, IL.
The purpose of the evening is to bond with 
the citizens and show the Police Department's commitment to being a "crime-free" village. 

The Lansing Police Department provides free giveaways and food that is donated by Lansing's businesses and service organizations. Residents are encouraged to lock their doors and turn on their porchlights on the night of the event to show our commitment to keeping Lansing crime-free. PROGRAMS
Remembering When -  A fire and fall prevention program for older adults National Fire Prevention Association
Blood Pressure Screening - Any person who wishes, may have their blood pressure checked by stopping at any of our fire stations. On several occasions, serious medical conditions have been discovered before they became life threatening.
Blood Sugar Monitoring -  People who are diabetic may also have their blood sugar checked by stopping at any of our fire station. This has also prevented serious complications for some of our residents in the past.
BLOOD PRESSURE AND BLOOD SUGAR SCREENING
On the first Monday of the month (excluding holidays) a nurse from All Care Home Health comes to the Clerk's Office (18200 Chicago Ave.) to perform blood pressure and blood sugar screening between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. This service is FREE to all Lansing residents

LANSING LOAN CLOSET
One of the most utilized services that the Village provides is the "Lansing Loan Closet". The equipment for the Loan Closet is stored in the garage to the west of the Clerk's Office. We have wheelchairs, walkers, canes, commodes, tub chairs, ands other miscellaneous items.

The items are available to any Lansing resident in need of medical equipment. All items have been donated to the Loan Closet for use by our residents. All that is required is to fill out a sheet of paper, for our records, with your name , address, phone number and what you are borrowing. When the item is returned your name is removed form our files.
