Something Different for Lansing

New Residents

Welcome to Lansing!

This section is designed to provide new residents with helpful information about living in Lansing.

Water Service

A $100 water deposit is required upon application for water service. This fee must be paid at the Lansing Municipal Center / Clerk’s office located at 3141 Ridge Rd.(Ridge Road and Burnham Avenue). This should be done before you take possession of the premises. If or when you move, the deposit will be applied to your final bill or transferred to your new address if you remain in Lansing.

Garbage & Recycling Pickup

The Public Works Department works very hard to keep Lansing beautiful. By following the simple procedures listed below, you not only adhere to Village ordinance, but you assist the Public Works Department in keeping our village clean. All refuse and recycling should be placed curbside or in the alley by 6:00 a.m. on the regular scheduled pickup day.

  • Refuse must be put in cans that are 34 gallons or less. Cans must be plastic or galvanized and have tight fitting lids.
  • Only household garbage and grass clippings should be placed in cans. Dirt, rocks, bricks, concrete and construction materials should be placed in the street along the curb in a neat pile. Call Public Works at (708) 895-7190 to make arrangements for a special pickup for such items.
  • Branches from tree trimming should be stacked neatly near the curb. You must call Public Works to be placed on the “chipper list” for a special pickup.
  • Public Works encourages all Lansing residents to participate in Lansing’s curbside recycling program. Items should be placed in bins or garbage cans that are 34 gallons or less and clearly marked “recycling”.
